Avatar: Way of the Water Off To Soft Start At Domestic Box Office

“Avatar: Way of the Water” brought in $134 million across North America during its opening weekend, falling short of expectations, and $300.5 million internationally.
James Camerons long-awaited sequel to 2009s “Avatar,” the highest-grossing film of all time, opened to high expectations.
The figures place “Way of the Water” in a tie with “The Batman” for the fourth highest domestic opening of the year, but still well ahead of the original films $77 million debut.
Despite the 13-year wait, Cameron has said he plans to release a third “Avatar” film in 2024, followed by a fourth in 2026.
